. . .

Looking back through my notebook yesterday, I realized that I spelled Edith Schaeffer's name correctly after each one of her quotes except the quote that I posted a few days ago. I suppose this is what happens when one copies quotes while talking to campers and listening for the phone to ring or the dryer cycle to end. That is all.

In which Woolf wears a mustache . . .

My first session of campers bought me a teddy bear (because they were super sweet) and named him "Woolf" which is also the name of my cabin :)
I may carry him around each night :)

In my counselor lunch on Wednesday I got a mustache. (We always get something amusing in our "Opening Day" lunches.) So I decided to give it to Woolf :)

quiet afternoons

Most days I have a short time in the afternoon in which I am "in unit" while the campers are all in classes-- this basically means I get to sit at a picnic table and write or draw or make friendship bracelets. (I have a few "chores" to do first, but they never take very long.)
Yesterday I was working on things for my campers. Meal times are one of the hardest parts of the day for me (because we usually have to wait at the tables for a while before getting food) and I was running out of get-to-know-you questions so I decided to try this instead :) It worked pretty well this morning . . .
. . . and we have a rather absurd story to finish at lunch today :)

purple is the best color

a homemade blueberry smoothie (with soy) from a cute little bookstore that I went to yesterday :) It was delicious . . . and I almost forgot that air conditioning and hard wood floors existed.

good books allow for lovely (and frequent) additions to my quote book

*whoops :/

homemade posters and activites

chore chart :)

On middle Sunday, I gave my girls boxes of nerds and that had sticky notes with the name of their "cabin buddy" on them :) It gave them a chance to talk to someone they hadn't spent much time with and created more unity within the group :) Also, nerds are one of the only candies that will not melt and can be eaten with braces.

breaks are beautiful

Bible Study on the beach in the sunset
sleeping in
waking up to birds singing instead of a noisy alarm
real breakfast food
calling home
sitting in a coffee shop that has real floors and air conditioning and internet that doesn't drop out every few minutes
not having to come up with get-to-know-you questions while eating food
having time to be introspective
spending time with other counselors- getting to know beautiful people :)

centrality

"It's a startling demonstration of the centrality of God's existence that when one says 'thank you' to Him, immediately that thanks is so naturally woven together with a thank you to human friends who have called on Him for help." ~Edith Schaeffer

p.s. I know my titles have been so thoughtful and full of meaning lately. *sarcasm hand raised - as a dear friend of mine would say* I blame it on long camp days and very brief periods of internet access.

session one

I asked my girls to straighten up their pile of shoes and they decided that meant that they should organize them by color and type of shoe :)
the cabin :)
We had a Unit Trash Bag Re-Fashion night. All of the campers got to make an outfit for their counselors :)
My campers found a beautiful moth on the last day :)
The last couple days were really wonderful :) I was sad to see all of them go yesterday and not having anyone to say goodnight or good morning to was very strange.

My first group was definitely my quiet, introverted group :P So the first days were a little hard, but by the end, we had all gotten really close :) I'm excited (and a little nervous) to see what my next group of girls will be like :) But, I'm also really enjoying having two-ish days to not be in-charge of anything or anyone and to have time to myself :)
